Xiang Peng: Figural Space Cabinet (Hangzhou)
Location: Hangzhou,China
Time: 2018
This project is a joint research project between the China Academy of Fine Arts and the Bauhaus Deshaus Foundation. Co directed by Hu Zhenhang and Torsten Blume. This project simultaneously reviews the Bauhaus stage experiment in history and the traditional performance styles of the Song Dynasty in China, re examining the two from a historical perspective and exploring the possibility of comparison and dialogue. This project focuses on the character images of Bauhaus stage and Song zaju, using them as basic materials and inspiration sources. Through dance and other action arts, it explores the sportiness and design of space from a contemporary perspective. The project aims to achieve a spatial design in motion by developing choreographed objects (body extensions, props, clothing components). In April 2018, "Elephant Studio: Character Space Closets" was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the China International Design Museum.
